Uses

This is not a catalog of gadgets. It is an inventory of mediations: the tools, systems, and rituals through which I communicate, think, decide, build, observe, and recover. I use technology every day because modern engineering work is now organized through it. But I do not believe tools are neutral. Each one carries an idea of time, attention, control, memory, responsibility, and value. So this page is not about worshipping productivity. It is about remaining lucid in front of the technical system I depend on.

Human ↔ Human

Tools that mediate relationships between people; useful when they help us understand each other, dangerous when they replace presence with signals.

Communication & Presence: Voice, video, instant messaging, in-person time. They convey nuance only when used with intent; otherwise they collapse presence into notifications.
Team Coordination: Shared calendars, planning boards, ceremonies, working agreements. Healthy when the team can see itself in them; unhealthy when status replaces conversation.
Knowledge Sharing: Docs, wikis, decision logs, retrospectives, demos. Knowledge is shared only when it can be challenged; otherwise it is just storage.
Leadership & Coaching: One-to-ones, feedback rituals, mentoring exchanges, career conversations. The medium matters less than regularity and honesty.
External Stakeholder Management: Clients, partners, vendors, executives. Different audiences require different registers; the discipline is to translate without flattening intent.

Human ↔ Machine

Tools through which I think, write, build, inspect, and decide; they extend my abilities, but they also shape my attention.

Personal Computing Environment: Laptop, operating system, terminal, shell, dotfiles. The substrate I live in every day. I keep it boring, fast, and mine.
Software Craft & Development: Editors, language tooling, version control, review surfaces, local test harnesses. Where ideas meet constraints; I prefer sharpness to novelty.
Thinking, Writing & Sense-Making: Notes, markdown editors, diagrams, second-brain systems. Where ambiguity gets shaped into form before it becomes a decision.
Decision Support: LLM assistants, search, references, spreadsheets, models. Useful for accelerating the journey; never for outsourcing the choice.
Personal Automation: Scripts, shortcuts, command runners, scheduled jobs. The aim is to remove repetition, not understanding.
Digital Hygiene & Security: Password manager, MFA, encrypted storage, backup discipline, threat model. Quiet practices that prevent loud failures.
Physical-Digital Workspace: Desk, keyboard, monitor, lighting, headphones, posture. The body still operates at the rate of the body; tools that ignore this exhaust the operator.

Machine ↔ Machine

Systems that communicate, enforce, deploy, observe, and react without waiting for me; the more they automate, the more I must decide what should remain human.

Source-to-Production Flow: CI pipelines, build systems, artifact registries, release automation. The conveyor that turns commits into running software; every shortcut here compounds.
Runtime Infrastructure: Containers, orchestrators, cloud platforms, networking, identity. The substrate the application actually breathes in.
Observability & Feedback Loops: Logs, metrics, traces, alerts, dashboards. Without observation, every deployment is a guess; with too much, every alert is noise.
Data Flows & Integration: APIs, queues, streams, ETL, schemas, contracts. The unglamorous plumbing where most production failures actually live.
Security Automation: Secret management, dependency scanning, policy-as-code, access controls. Security that depends on vigilance does not scale; security that ignores humans does not work.
Homelab & Personal Infrastructure: Self-hosted services, home network, NAS, side projects. Where I am operator, user, and victim of my own choices.
